Don Arends CISM
Excellence of Service Award
This award is dedicated to the memory of Donald Arends, whose life was tragically taken in 1997 while attempting to save a drowning victim. Don served for eight years as a CISM team member with his last appointment as Vice Chair.
Don gave of his time freely and without complaints. Unless he was on duty as Captain with the Sandy City Fire Department, he would always make himself available for debriefings, regional training, or peer counseling for members. Don made significant contributions to the CISM team through his leadership as Region Coordinator, his educational commitment to both team and EMS members, and through his personal drive to the physical and mental well being of individuals from all corners of the
state.
It is to this commitment of excellence that Don demonstrated, that his award is being presented.
If you know of a CISM team member, current or past, that has exhibited these similar attributes and you would like to nominate them, please submit their name and a description of their history with the CISM team to the team secretary.
Dr. Richard Southwick Award
There are no adequate words to describe the gratitude we feel towards Dr. Richard Southwick for his unwavering dedication and outstanding work for our team. He was the founding father of our team along with Jan Buttrey and served as the team’s Clinical Director for the ensuing 38 years.
To honor his service, an award was created in his name that will be presented yearly to one of our mental health peers for outstanding contributions to our team and emergency responders.
